We had a party!
In the words of the A Team “Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?!”
Come together it did but not without some jolly hard work on behalf of all the backroom people who were getting things organised in the run up. From buying supplies, gathering decorations, making cake stands, collecting vintage plates, perfecting the menu, testing out recipes, making photo props, collecting super prizes for the Tombola.
For any successful event we needed ticket sales and the online team did their best to spread the word across social media alongside other teams to bring in a record number of applications. We hosted over 100 hundred people and recruited new members. As a self funding organisation events like these really help to spread the word and bring in much needed donations so we can continue providing support and opportunities.
I feel a special mention is needed here for Jules Lancastle from the catering team who, with her connections to the Ukranian community that she has been involved in supporting, encouraged them to join us for what turned out to be a memorable and really quite emotional event. At the end of the day this is what the BBA is all about, bringing people together to work in harmony and support each other and what better way to show it! Am hoping to bring you more details on the work being done in the community in future posts.
Then there was the work on the day itself. The decorators decorated, the Tombola was set up, the new signage and leaflets were distributed and the caterers led by Ruth and Karen (of Cake by Karen) proved that there can never be too many cooks by creating an afternoon tea par excellence. Rumour has it that it was better than the tea served up at Buckingham Palace!
To cap it all, after a week of uncertainty weather wise, the rain held off and it was pleasantly warm and not too hot.
So here we have it a snapshot of the day as it progressed, if you missed it fear not there will be other events coming up so watch this space.
If you fancy throwing your own afternoon tea party one or two of our contributors will be sharing their hot tips, menu ideas and recipes as well as a chance for you to bag a genuine vintage hand crafted cake stand whether for a big shindig or a tea for two. So keep your eyes peeled for more this week.
